Supporting Event Sustainability
How we leveraged local talent for an international event to support our customer’s sustainability goals.
Opportunity
A technology customer needed six travel directors on-site to help run an international event based in London. They wanted to take sustainability efforts (and cost) into consideration as well.
Our solution
To help reduce carbon emissions from business travel, we sourced expert talent from our global network of freelancers who were based in London and had the expertise and soft skills required. By sourcing locally instead of hiring talent outside of London, we significantly reduced carbon emissions.
For reference, a roundtrip flight from Chicago, IL, to London, England (approx. 8 hours non-stop) in economy class omits about 2.1 tons of C02. By hiring six local event experts instead of sourcing from the U.S., we helped save about 12.6 total tons of C02 from unnecessary travel – it would take 475 trees to absorb that much C02!
